What happened
Super League Kerala Season 3 opens with a Malabar derby: Calicut FC face Malappuram FC at EMS Corporation Stadium on 2 October 2026 at 7:30 PM IST.
Why it matters
Under the new 3-2-1-0 rules, no draw is possible, so every minute is worth points. One late goal can hand Malappuram the derby.
Remember this
In a Malabar derby, one goal now decides everything.
Where each side enters
Season 3 opened with Calicut beating Thiruvananthapuram Kombans 2-0 while Malappuram lost 1-0 to Forca Kochi. The 3-2-1-0 points system removes draws, so a single late goal decides derbies like this one.
More context & who is affected
Super League Kerala Season 3 starts with a Malabar showpiece. Calicut FC open as table toppers after beating Thiruvananthapuram Kombans 2-0 through Prasanth and Maximiliano, with coach Ever Demalde retained for the new campaign.
Malappuram enter off a 1-0 loss to Forca Kochi, decided by Rahul Raju at 90+3 minutes after a keeper fumble. The new 3-2-1-0 points system removes draws, so one late goal can flip the whole derby.
