What happened
RBI's FEMA export regulations came into force on 1 October 2026, making the Export Declaration Form (EDF) mandatory for every overseas service invoice.
Why it matters
Freelancers, YouTubers and other service exporters must file the EDF at their AD bank within 30 days of the invoice month end, or risk blocked eBRC, denied GST refunds and FEMA penalties.
Remember this
New FEMA rule: file EDF at your AD bank within 30 days of invoice month end.
What service exporters must do now
RBI's FEMA export regulations are in force from 1 October 2026. Every overseas service invoice now needs an EDF at your AD bank, filed within 30 days of the invoice month end.
- File an EDF at your AD bank for every overseas service invoice.
- Meet the 30-day deadline counted from the end of the invoice month.
- Let the AD bank push the EDF into EDPMS within five working days of the filing.
- Collect and repatriate the full export value within nine months of the invoice date.
- Watch out: unreconciled EDF entries block eBRC and GST refunds and attract FEMA penalties.
More context & who is affected
From 1 October 2026, every rupee a freelancer or YouTuber bills overseas now needs paperwork. The Reserve Bank has made the Export Declaration Form (EDF) a mandatory step at your AD bank, with the invoice due within 30 days of the month end.
The same window is short all the way through: your AD bank has to push the EDF into EDPMS in five working days, and the entire export value must be collected and repatriated within nine months of the invoice date. Invoices under Rs 10 lakh can be closed by the AD banker on a self-declaration.
Software exports no longer need a separate SOFTEx filing - the EDF now covers them. Miss the paperwork and you lose eBRC generation, your GST refund gets denied, and FEMA penalties follow.
