What happened
Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on September 14, 2026 for Apple Silicon Macs, introducing a rebuilt Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence integrated into Spotlight and a new Siri app with iCloud-synced conversation history.
Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on September 14, 2026 alongside its other OS updates, and the headliner is a completely rebuilt Siri AI. Powered by Apple Intelligence, it lives inside Spotlight and also gets its own Siri app that keeps conversation history in sync via iCloud.
The big new trick is Visual Intelligence on Mac. Hit Command-Shift-Space to select any part of your screen and ask Siri what you are looking at, or hit Command-Shift-6 to send the entire focused window as context. It can answer questions about images, PDFs or text and even take actions like adding an event to Calendar from a screenshot.
Safari also gets smarter with AI-powered Notify Me alerts for price drops and page changes, plus automatic tab grouping by topic, while Siri can proofread, rewrite or draft text directly in any text box. App actions work wherever developers have adopted Apple's App Intents framework, so coverage will expand as apps update for macOS 27.
There is a catch on hardware: macOS 27 runs only on Apple Silicon — MacBook Air and Pro from 2020, iMac from 2021, Mac Mini from 2020, Mac Studio from 2022 and Mac Pro from 2023 onward. Intel Macs are out, and Apple says this is the last release to include Rosetta.
At a Glance
macOS 27 Golden Gate is Apple's big AI push for the Mac, but it draws a hard hardware line and leans on developers to complete the picture.
- Siri AI lives in Spotlight + new Siri app with iCloud history sync
- Visual Intelligence: ⌘⇧Space for region, ⌘⇧6 for focused window context
- Safari: AI Notify Me + auto tab grouping; Siri can proofread/draft in any text box
- Apple Silicon only — final macOS with Rosetta, Intel Macs not supported
What to Do Next
If you are on Apple Silicon, check Software Update for macOS 27; developers should adopt App Intents to make actions available to Siri. Intel Mac owners should plan an upgrade path before Rosetta goes away.
Why it matters for me
Mac users can select any screen region or focused window and ask Siri to explain, summarise or act on it — from proofreading text to adding calendar events from screenshots.
Daily Life
Mac Users
Mac users can ask Siri about anything visible on screen without switching apps, using shortcuts to add calendar events, summarize documents or explain images.
Work
Developers · Mac Users
Developers who adopt App Intents will make their apps actionable by Siri, unlocking new productivity workflows; apps that do not will feel left behind.
Money
Mac Users
Intel Mac owners must upgrade to Apple Silicon to get macOS 27 and the new Siri AI, as this is the last macOS version to support Rosetta.
What to remember
Siri finally works where you work — inside every window.
macOS 27 is here: Siri AI + Visual Intelligence now lives in Spotlight on every Apple Silicon Mac.

The headline feature of macOS 27 is a rebuilt Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence, surfaced inside Spotlight and also in a dedicated Siri app with conversation history synced via iCloud.
Visual Intelligence on Mac is triggered with Command-Shift-Space to select any screen region and ask Siri about images, PDFs or text on screen.
Command-Shift-6 adds the currently focused window as context for the AI, mirroring sidebar-context assistants like Highlight, Caddy and Littlebird.
Siri AI can perform actions across installed apps (e.g., adding a calendar event from a screenshot) but only where developers have exposed content via App Intents.
macOS 27 requires Apple Silicon Macs (MacBook Air/Pro 2020+, iMac 2021+, Mac Mini 2020+, Mac Studio 2022+, Mac Pro 2023+, MacBook Neo) and is the final release to support Rosetta with no Intel support.
