macOS 27 Golden Gate Brings AI-Powered Siri to Every Mac Window

Apple's macOS 27 Golden Gate is live — Siri AI now lives in Spotlight with Visual Intelligence, window-aware context and cross-app actions on Apple Silicon Macs.

01 / What happened

What happened

Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on September 14, 2026 for Apple Silicon Macs, introducing a rebuilt Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence integrated into Spotlight and a new Siri app with iCloud-synced conversation history.

Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on September 14, 2026 alongside its other OS updates, and the headliner is a completely rebuilt Siri AI. Powered by Apple Intelligence, it lives inside Spotlight and also gets its own Siri app that keeps conversation history in sync via iCloud.

The big new trick is Visual Intelligence on Mac. Hit Command-Shift-Space to select any part of your screen and ask Siri what you are looking at, or hit Command-Shift-6 to send the entire focused window as context. It can answer questions about images, PDFs or text and even take actions like adding an event to Calendar from a screenshot.

Safari also gets smarter with AI-powered Notify Me alerts for price drops and page changes, plus automatic tab grouping by topic, while Siri can proofread, rewrite or draft text directly in any text box. App actions work wherever developers have adopted Apple's App Intents framework, so coverage will expand as apps update for macOS 27.

There is a catch on hardware: macOS 27 runs only on Apple Silicon — MacBook Air and Pro from 2020, iMac from 2021, Mac Mini from 2020, Mac Studio from 2022 and Mac Pro from 2023 onward. Intel Macs are out, and Apple says this is the last release to include Rosetta.

What Is Confirmed

At a Glance

macOS 27 Golden Gate is Apple's big AI push for the Mac, but it draws a hard hardware line and leans on developers to complete the picture.

  • Siri AI lives in Spotlight + new Siri app with iCloud history sync
  • Visual Intelligence: ⌘⇧Space for region, ⌘⇧6 for focused window context
  • Safari: AI Notify Me + auto tab grouping; Siri can proofread/draft in any text box
  • Apple Silicon only — final macOS with Rosetta, Intel Macs not supported
What Next

What to Do Next

If you are on Apple Silicon, check Software Update for macOS 27; developers should adopt App Intents to make actions available to Siri. Intel Mac owners should plan an upgrade path before Rosetta goes away.

02 / Why it matters

Why it matters for me

Mac users can select any screen region or focused window and ask Siri to explain, summarise or act on it — from proofreading text to adding calendar events from screenshots.
