Exit polls from SVT and TV4 project Sweden's left-wing bloc narrowly ahead with 51.3% of the vote versus 46.8% for the right-wing bloc in Sunday's election. Preliminary results with 92% of votes counted show the left-led opposition on 175 of 349 Riksdag seats — just one seat ahead of the governing right-wing bloc.
The Sweden Democrats, the hard-right party currently propping up PM Kristersson's government, face their first decline since entering parliament in 2010, projected at 17.2% — down three points from 2022. If the left wins a majority, Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson is projected to become Sweden's new prime minister, having previously held the office from 2021 to 2022.
Professor Tommy Möller of Stockholm University called the result clearly decided compared to previous exit polls, while outgoing PM Kristersson expressed confidence in continuing his government's important work.
