Kya hua
14 Sep 2026 ko Volkswagen ne MEB+ platform par 99 kW ID. Polo motor aur 54.9 kWh battery wala Mission Efficiency prototype dikhaya aur Wolfsburg se Vienna tak 1,278 km ek charge me chalaya.
Volkswagen ne 14 September 2026 ko apna Mission Efficiency prototype unveil kiya — ek near-production 2+2 coupe jo 323 MPGe tak ka efficiency claim karta hai, aur interior me Slate Auto wala BYOD idea copy karta hai.
Yeh gaadi MEB+ platform par bani hai aur ID. Polo ka 99 kW front motor aur 54.9 kWh usable battery use karti hai. Teardrop Kammback shape aur 0.158 Cd (road-car record) ke saath isne Wolfsburg se Vienna tak 1,278 km ka safar ek hi charge me pura kiya, aur pahunchne par bhi 164 km range bacha tha.
Real-world consumption 7.51 kWh/100 km raha (charging losses ke saath), jabki ideal flat-road test me 6.48 kWh/100 km — matlab Lucid Air Pure se lagbhag double efficient. Phir bhi rear seats sirf 1.6m tak ke logon ke liye hain aur ride quality compromise hai kyunki wheel arches tyres ke bahut close hain.
Cabin me koi built-in infotainment ya speaker nahi — sirf Bluetooth speaker aur apna tablet/phone lao wala setup, bilkul Slate pickup ki tarah. Roof par solar cells bhi hain par din me sirf ~30 km extra dete hain. VW ne abhi production ka koi promise nahi kiya hai.
Aero itna extreme kyun hai
VW ne Kammback teardrop, ID. Polo se 170 mm narrow rear axle, rim deflectors aur low-resistance tyres use kiye. Wheels ka drag me 25-30% hissa hota hai. Camera mirrors ka fayda kam tha isliye normal mirrors rakhe.
Andar kya hai aur aage kya
Aluminium body, CFRP hood/doors/trunk aur polycarbonate windows se weight kam. Aage ID. Polo steering aur chhota cluster + tablet mount, seats recycled material. Peeche 2+2 sirf 1.6m tak. Abhi production ka koi plan nahi — XL1 ki tarah halo project.
Kyun matter karta hai
Real me 7.51 aur ideal me 6.48 kWh/100 km se pata chalta hai affordable aero wali EV aaj ki best cars se double efficient ho sakti hai, par space aur comfort compromise hai.

0.158 Cd wala record dikhata hai aero ke liye exotic parts zaruri nahi, par ride comfort aur peeche ki space compromise hoti hai.

Cabin me built-in screen/speaker nahi, apna tablet/phone lao — cost aur weight kam, par maps/music/calls ka use badal jayega.
Seedhi baat
Near-production VW se 323 MPGe — BYOD cabin aur extreme aero se bina exotic tech ke efficiency.
VW Mission Efficiency 0.158 Cd ke saath 1,278 km ek charge me — 323 MPGe aur Slate jaisa bina screen wala cabin.

8 claimsVolkswagen unveiled the Mission Efficiency prototype on 14 September 2026, describing it as the world's most efficient near-production electric car.
The Mission Efficiency was driven 1,278.36 km from Wolfsburg via Poznan and Olmutz to Vienna on a single charge and arrived with 164 km range remaining.
Real-world consumption was 7.51 kWh/100 km including charging losses (6.89 excluding), about 279 MPGe.
Under ideal conditions (68 km/h flat, auxiliaries off) consumption was 6.48 kWh/100 km, about 323 MPGe.
Drag coefficient is 0.158 with frontal area 2.08 sqm, a record for road-approved cars, achieved with three active cooling flaps closed.
Built on MEB+ front-wheel-drive platform using the ID. Polo's 99 kW motor and 54.9 kWh battery, making it near-production rather than an exotic one-off.
Cabin borrows Slate Auto's BYOD idea: no built-in infotainment or speakers, only a Bluetooth speaker and user-supplied tablet/phone.
VW kept conventional exterior mirrors after testing showed camera mirrors would not deliver enough efficiency benefit to justify cost and energy use.
