12 Sep 2026 ko Dario Amodei ne 'We Must Pace the Frontier' essay nikala, frontier AI par speed limit ka proposal — kuch hi ghanto me Altman, Musk aur Hassabis ne support kar diya.
12 September 2026 ko Anthropic ke CEO Dario Amodei ne apni personal website par 3,800 words ka essay publish kiya — 'We Must Pace the Frontier'. Unka point clear tha: frontier AI itni tez bhaag rahi hai ki models ko properly align aur safeguard karne ka time hi nahi mil raha, woh bhi self-improving superintelligence se pehle. Kuch hi ghanto me OpenAI ke Sam Altman, xAI ke Elon Musk aur Google DeepMind ke Demis Hassabis ne publicly support kar diya ki haan, pace karna chahiye.
Amodei ka plan 3 steps ka hai. Step 1 already start ho raha hai: Anthropic independent third-party evaluators ko employee-level access dega taaki release se pehle models ko deeply test kiya ja sake, aur Altman ne bola OpenAI bhi 'same karega' aur jaldi detail share karega. Step 2 hai democratic countries ke beech industry-wide coordination — common safety standards aur unchecked progress par ek tarah ka speed limit. Step 3 hai global coordination, jisme authoritarian governments ke saath bhi limited risks par baat karni hogi.
Timing kaafi telling hai. Essay usi week aaya jab OpenAI aur Anthropic IPO ki taiyaari me hain, aur July me 1,000+ AI lab employees ne slowdown ke liye letter sign kiya tha. Uske baad Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon ne resign karte hue X par likha — 'Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives' — jo 170 million+ views ke saath viral ho gaya.
Watchdog Sacha Haworth ne warn kiya, 'We should not be letting the foxes run the henhouse'.
Cartel ka sawaal kyun?
US antitrust law me competitors ka milkar output ya innovation rokna Sherman Act ka violation ho sakta hai. Isi liye OpenAI ne Congress se waiver ke baare me poocha. Voluntary evaluators (step 1) akela theek hai; industry-wide speed limit (step 2) bina government cover ke regulators ko cartel lagega. Watchdogs ise 'foxes running the henhouse' keh rahe hain — bade players khud rule banayenge toh newcomers ke liye entry aur mushkil hogi.
Aage kya dekhna hai
Dekhna hoga ki Anthropic evaluators ko sach me employee-level access deta hai aur findings publish karta hai ya nahi, OpenAI apna matching commitment detail karta hai ya nahi, aur Congress antitrust safe harbor ka signal deta hai ya nahi. Agar ye vague raha, toh 'safety pact' IPO season se pehle ka PR lagega.
Kyun matter karta hai
Agar ye plan laga, toh models release se pehle independent evaluators se test honge — par bina antitrust clearance ke coordinated pause ko cartel bhi mana ja sakta hai.
Safety
General Public · Developers
Agar pacing sahi chala, toh frontier models release se pehle independent evaluators se test honge — unaligned superintelligence ka risk kam hoga.
Money
Business Executives · Developers
Bina antitrust waiver ke coordinated slowdown ko cartel mana ja sakta hai — startups aur investors ke liye legal risk banega jo speed par bet kar rahe hain.
Work
Tech Policymakers · Business Executives
China ka isko 'fearmongering' kehna aur Trump ka dismiss karna dikhata hai ki global coordination (step 3) sabse mushkil hoga.
Seedhi baat
Safety pact ya bade players ka moat — faisla evaluators ko kitni power milti hai us par hoga.
Big Tech AI ko slow karna chahti hai safety ke naam par — critics keh rahe cartel hai. Kyun ye pacing ka idea sabko divide kar raha hai.

6 claimsAnthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a 3,800-word essay titled 'We Must Pace the Frontier' on 12 September 2026 on his personal website.
Within hours of Amodei's essay, Sam Altman (OpenAI), Elon Musk (xAI) and Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind) publicly backed the call to pace the frontier.
Elon Musk's entire public response to Amodei's post was the three-word reply 'Dario is right.'
Amodei's proposal has three steps: (1) embedded third-party evaluators with employee-level access, which Anthropic is unilaterally committing to; (2) industry-wide coordination in democratic countries to set common safety standards and limits on the rate of unchecked AI progress; (3) global coordination with authoritarian governments on narrower questions.
Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon's resignation letter on X was viewed more than 170 million times on the platform, up from 100 million views in the first 24 hours after posting.
On 14 September 2026 China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to Amodei's essay by calling the slowdown calls 'fearmongering' and saying confrontation 'will only disrupt the process of global AI governance which serves no one's interest.'
