Superhuman acquires Fathom to add AI notetaker to its agentic productivity suite

YC-backed Fathom with 400k+ users joins Superhuman as productivity platforms race to turn meeting data into agentic workflows.

01 / What happened

What happened

Superhuman is acquiring YC-backed Fathom, the AI notetaker with over $30M raised and 400k+ monthly users, rather than building its own tool.

Superhuman is acquiring Fathom, the Y Combinator-backed AI notetaker, instead of building its own β€” a bet that buying a proven product is faster than building in a crowded, technically deep category. The deal was reported by TechCrunch on 14 September 2026.

Fathom, founded in 2020, has raised over $30 million and was valued at $94 million in 2024 per PitchBook. Backed by Zoom Apps Fund, Telescope Partners, BoxOne Ventures and angels including Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear and Cruise co-founder Kyle Vogt, it grew to over 400,000 monthly active users on a generous free plan, with more than a million people having recorded meetings.

Superhuman did test a notetaker internally with select users earlier in 2026, but chose to acquire. CEO Shishir Mehrotra said that testing boosted confidence in demand while showing how hard it is to nail every part of meeting capture. Fathom CEO Richard White said joining was about distribution: Superhuman's 40 million user base would have taken years for Fathom to replicate alone.

The notetaker slots into Superhuman's expanding suite β€” email, docs, calendar, database and the new Go 1.0 agent builder launched in August 2026 β€” letting users draft emails, update data, schedule follow-ups and let agents mine meeting transcripts. It lands as rivals like Granola ($125M at $1.5B) and Read AI ($50M) also raise big, cementing meeting data as the next front for agentic productivity.

Background

Why Superhuman bought instead of built

Superhuman tested a notetaker internally in early 2026, which confirmed demand but also showed how deep the category is β€” capturing audio, diarization, summaries and integrations all have to be excellent. Fathom already had the product and the users, while Superhuman had distribution and the Go agent platform. The fit avoids duplicating Fathom's roadmap.

What Next

What happens next

Expect Fathom to be bundled into Superhuman's suite alongside email, calendar and Go 1.0 agents. Watch for pricing changes, deeper MCP integrations for meeting data, and more M&A as productivity platforms consolidate meeting intelligence.

Fathom's 400k+ active users get a wider productivity suite, but may see pricing or bundling changes inside Superhuman's paid plans.

03 / The one thing

What to remember

The one thing
Distribution won: Superhuman's 40M users is the reason Fathom sold.

Superhuman buys notetaker Fathom β€” 400k users, 40M distribution, and the next battle for agentic productivity.
